Impact Resistant, Recessed Rear Step Design:
Rear body is cut away and designed to allow the rear bumper to be “flush” with the bottom of the body.
Incidental contact of the rear bumper will allow the bumper to flex under
the body.
The bumper crushes “under” the body – without damaging the rear of the body itself.
Lift up design allows fully recessed center section to aid in loading of stretcher. Stays up when lifted. Not shins to be scraped with a surprise drop of the step.
Center section is constructed of open grid design to allow water & debris to pass through and offers good traction under feet.
Rubber dock bumpers are provided for additional impact protection.

Engineered Corrosion Resistance:
Single piece aluminum skin
- no seams.
Aluminum treated with Chrome Etching Pen.
ECK utilized to isolate screws from aluminum skin.
Nylon inserts used for mounting of body flashing lights.
Rub rails held off body with nylon spacers.
Dielectric tape installed between stainless hinges and aluminum body.
Zinc Block added to under carriage of body as sacrificial anode.
Heavy Duty Braided ground straps.
High Quality Sikkens Paint System utilizing etch primer.
All Bodies wet sanded and buffed to high gloss finish.
Electrical:
Durability, Reliability
& Serviceability are at the core of our electrical analysis and design.
Many areas of the vehicle have been upgraded to LED light fixtures. Not only are the bulbs lower amperage draw, they are designed to last the life of the vehicle.
All circuits are evaluated for load & upgraded for maximum reliability.
Components can be field replaced/repaired without the vehicle being left totally disabled as with many competitive systems.
Lifetime Electrical Warranty
Electrical Load Management:
It’s more than just that load manager on your vehicle that sheds load in the event of a problem. Yes, your PL vehicle will have one of these.
It is an understanding of and respect for the proper balancing of charging system output and the vehicle’s electrical load on the system.
PL Custom manages each vehicle in the design stage with a complete analysis of the electrical system and offers guidance if the load is over the maximum requirements.
Maintaining and understanding the need for proper balance of available power and requested load is the key in designing and operating a reliable and safe ambulance.
Biohazard Prevention:
Keeping the ambulance personnel safe from biohazards is central in the design of our vehicles. From "easy to access" sharps and trash containers to seamless upholstery and Corian® counter tops; minimizing your exposure and making cleanup easy is important.
PL Oxygen Monitoring System:
Full time oxygen monitoring system
-always in view!
Audible and Visual Alarm: Activated whenever the oxygen bottle contents are below 250 PSI, the same condition that the “red” low level indicator has activated. The alarm can be silenced by depressing the red indicator light. The alarm will reactivate the next time the battery power is applied and the bottle contents are below 250 PSI.
Interior Lighting: Placement of lights is a “PL Exclusive:” Six dome light fixtures and four fluorescent fixtures. Fluorescent lights run in the longitudinal direction of the ambulance directly over the stretcher. Not behind the attendants where they can cast shadows.
Six (6) dual intensity dome lights.
Dome lights switch to low mode with door open. Standard hi/low switches for left and right banks.
Four 12 volt fluorescent lights: Provides even lighting to support the dome lights. Activated by switch in action area and also on each light for select lighting.
115 volt Shoreline activation with
“Side door” fluorescent check-out timer.
PL Exclusive, PL Invented,
PL Perfected, Climate Control:
The PL Custom Climate Control System was introduced over ten years ago and has lived through several levels of redesign to reach the level it is today.
Centrally Ducted Climate Control System is thermostatically controlled to provide a comfortable working environment in the ambulance.
Raceway mounted adjustable louvers allow you to direct the air away from the patient or toward the attendants as needed. The 450 cfm power exhaust fan will completely replace the air in the ambulance in two minutes. Fresh air is brought in from the front of the body and exhausted out the back for flow thru ventilation system.
The ambulance climate control unit uses a high pressure-high volume motor/ blower assembly specifically chosen for its use in this system.
The design has been tested and
compared to other blower assemblies and we have found a perfect match for our design.
Insulation and Sound Deadening: Sound Stop sound deadened flooring material. Material is actually laminated between the layers of the plywood.
Sound Stop sound and vibration absorbing material installed in critical locations:
– Interior of wheel wells, all exterior door panels, side door stepwell
Entrance doors insulated with
Sound Stop material
in addition to Thinsulate. ®
Interior door panels equipped
with vibration isolators for rods.Body fully insulated with 2"
Thinsulate® material.
